Introduction
Shrewsbury United Reformed Church (URC) has been serving its local community for many years, providing a space for worship, support and fellowship. The church is dedicated to maintaining a welcoming environment for its congregation and is actively involved in various community outreach initiatives. As part of its operations, Shrewsbury URC relies heavily on printed materials, including hymn sheets, newsletters and other church-related documents, to keep its congregation informed and engaged.
Situation
Edward Coward, a representative from Shrewsbury URC, reached out to Key Digital seeking a more efficient and cost-effective printing solution. The church had been using an older A3 printer for several years, but it was becoming increasingly inefficient for their needs. The church primarily printed monochrome hymn sheets and documents, with only a small quantity of A3 prints each week – around 10 pages.
However, the church was also facing additional challenges. They were looking at outsourcing their newsletter printing to a local provider for £100 per month. This monthly job included printing 20 five-page colour booklets (A4 folded to A5) and 60 monochrome pages, totalling 100 pages in colour and 300 pages in mono. This outsourcing option was proving to be costly, and Edward was keen to explore more efficient in-house solutions.
Solution
After discussing the church’s specific printing needs, Key Digital proposed a tailored solution designed to meet both their current and future requirements. The recommendation was a new A3 printer that could handle the church’s regular printing volumes with ease, while also offering enhanced functionality for future projects.
Key Digital’s solution included:
- Device Selection: A versatile, high-performance printer capable of printing, copying and scanning in both monochrome and colour, ensuring flexibility for various document types
- Booklet Making Capabilities: As part of the new solution, a booklet-making option was included, which would allow the church to produce its newsletters in-house, saving them the £100 per month they were planning to spend on outsourcing
- Cost Structure: We proposed a fixed quarterly lease, offering predictable costs for budgeting and ensuring long-term savings
- Ongoing Support: Edward appreciated Key Digital’s focus on providing ongoing support, ensuring the church would have access to assistance whenever needed
By implementing this new solution, Shrewsbury URC would not only improve the quality and speed of printing tasks but also achieve greater control over costs. The printer’s advanced features would support its mission to streamline its administrative operations, enabling the church to allocate resources more effectively and maintain focus on its community initiatives.
“We were struggling with an outdated printing system. The team quickly understood our needs and provided a solution that saved us money while improving efficiency.
“The new printer handles all our printing needs, and the booklet-making feature has eliminated the need for external printing.”
– Edward Coward
