Custom healthcare packaging provider enlists Key Digital to install & manage their UK & Ireland print fleet

Key Metrics

  • 52 devices installed and managed
  • 4 regional offices across Europe
  • 500+ staff on site

Background

Serving the healthcare and life sciences industries for over 70 years, Nelipak is regarded as a global leader in the healthcare packaging market.

Nelipak began with the Nelissen family in a small town in the Netherlands: Venray. They have since grown to include 11 manufacturing sites and over 1,400 employees across The Netherlands, Ireland, England, USA, Puerto Rico and Costa Rica.

Situation

Nelipak initially approached Key Digital with a requirement for a single print device for their HR team. Following a group-wide audit of the print fleet, it became apparent that a single solution provider would be favourable across the whole of the European region where possible.

Three of the sites contained legacy hardware made up of a mix of printers of various ages that were causing operational issues. Issues included toners having to be ordered manually then not arriving in time, causing a negative impact on production. Several of the devices were taking up lots of the IT department’s time leading to delays in other projects.

Solution

Key Digital recommended moving to a complete Managed Print Service, as opposed to the current unmanaged fleet of devices. Following a month-long monitoring period, Key Digital were able to analyse Nelipak’s fleet data and print habits to ascertain the most optimal fleet recommendation.

An Epson Heat-Free technology fleet was chosen to align with Nelipak’s sustainability goals and the large-capacity consumables paired with Key Digital’s automated ordering system would vastly reduce downtime. Following a successful proof of concept and approval from the USA Headquarters, installation was arrange with two of Nelipak’s sites – Elsham, England and Clara, Ireland.

A few months later, installation was completed at the remaining two sites in Galway, Ireland and Derry, Northern Ireland. There is now interest to carry the solution forward into the remaining European site in Venray, The Netherlands.

The Result

Moving to a Managed Print Service has seen the team at Nelipak benefit from longer device uptime and less administration time being needed from the IT team. Staff productivity has increased now that Key Digital’s automated consumable ordering system sends new cartridges before they are depleted. The large-sized ink cartridges mean that re-orders are few and far between keeping downtime to a minimum.

Staff are also benefiting from the change to modern Heat-Free technology. With no warm up time, staff no longer have to wait around for prints to be produced while the device heats up. The resulting energy and CO2 reduction will help Nelipak toward their sustainability goals.

Key Digital’s ‘Print It, Plant It’ programme is being used to provide Nelipak with sustainability reports that convert the carbon footprint from printing into trees – allowing them to offset the carbon production into planting trees in local forests and community areas.
